I'm on PAYG tariff, I've got credit on my phone, yet I'm unable to access any data on phone, when I try to use it, all I get is currently offline, I'm able to send and receive text and the phone has switched to Movistar, is there a setting I should be changing on my phone?

Movistar is the correct network for Gran Canaria.
If you have an iPhone, change the APN to "mobile.o2.co.uk"
If all that fails, then call O2 and ask them to remove the data bar on your account.

Have you got data roaming enabled in settings?
iPhone apn should be "payandgo.o2.co.uk"
