You need to cancel the contract, not the direct debit.

Direct debits need to be cancelled through your bank or by online banking

However, don't cancel the direct debit until the contract has been cancelled and the final bill has been produced and paid

Otherwise you could find your credit file has been marked with any O2 debt

If it's PAYG (Where you posted) you can cancel your Direct Debit with the bank, O2 can't do that.

If you are contract, follow the advice given

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.
