Hi two people just texted me on my nokia lumia 520 to say they have tried to phone me but cannot get through it says the other person has hung up, any idea what it could be please?

menu's might be different - i have a 640 at the minute - see below screen shot...

Could any number of reasons.
Try restarting your phone, check for network issues http://status.o2.co.uk/ and check that you haven't got quiet time turned on in settings.

Poor signal area? Damaged phone / sim?

Try the sim in another phone and see how if the issue continues.

Quiet times is a setting in Cortana's notebook where you can set times where you will not be disturbed, so people who call you don't get through (unless you have them added to your allowed list)

Go to settings and scroll down to quiet times.
If on there will be a moon shape on the notification bar.

More likely to be a network issue with calls in your area tbh.
