Wifi calling on Huawei P20 Pro

I have bad network coverage at home and want to switch to a device which supports wifi calling so that I can make calls at home. On the O2 website the Huawei P20 Pro is not listed as a device supported by O2 for this functionality. However, I've just spoken to a customer service rep who GUARANTEED me that I would be able to make wifi calls.

Does anyone have any experience with this before I buy?

@EAWS

If you have tweeted O2 and they say it isn't supported ...then it isn't.

@Chris_Kis part of the social media team and may well have been the one who replied.

It's still not showing on the supported list so you may have to wait longer than you are prepared to.

No exactly, hence my question. He went away and made a phone call to check, then guaranteed me it would be ok. He says they might need to update the website.

I was wondering if anyone had a Huawei P20 Pro and was able to confirm that O2 supports this?

We were told recently by @Chris_K that they were working on supporting this phone so hopefully they have now.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Whatever has been said it still hasn't been confirmed.

Maybe @Chris_K could confirm it has actually happened, or at least give a date?

We can only go on what the website currently states.

Hi everyone, I've just had a really unsatisfying chat with an advisor who, in my opinion, was extremely duplicitous. Only after asking several times in many different ways did I get to the bottom of it. Chat transcript below.

EAWS: ok can you please guarantee me that o2 supports wifi calling on this device?
EAWS: otherwise I don't want to buy this phone
O2 advisor: Yes <it is correct it supports wifi calling
EAWS: Just to clarify - I know the device supports wifi calling, but does O2 support wifi calling on this device?
O2 advisor: Yes we do
EAWS: Because on your website it says it's not supported
O2 advisor: I am right there on the website
O2 advisor: It is device dependent
EAWS: Please can you send me that link?
EAWS: On this link it does not say Huawei is supported https://www.o2.co.uk/connectivity/wifi-and-4g-calling
O2 advisor: Well, It does not have the P20 in the list
EAWS: correct
EAWS: So can you see how I am confused?
O2 advisor: But there are other Apps from where you can make wifi calls
O2 advisor: Like the skype
EAWS: So you are saying that O2 does not support wifi calling on the Huawei P20 pro?
O2 advisor: Yes so far the P20 pro model does not.

I'm outraged.

Forgive my ignorance, but is Wi-Fi calling in this sense simply using the same phone call functionality?  Or does your device need to be Wi-Fi calling enabled to make calls through WhatsApp, Skype and other such apps? It's not using the carrier's signal, so I wouldn;t have thought, but thought I'd ask anyway

Thanks

Steve

I'd still wait for an update off @Chris_K or @Martin-O2
