Is it possible to remove o2 branded software on a Nokia 1020 and convert it to sim free???

Not bothered. Will sort it out elsewhere.

I know what I meant and maintain sim free is unlocked without o2 bloatware.

I couldn't find any O2 bloatware at all in my Lumia 1020 (bought from O2). Yes, there's O2 logo at the start, yes there were a couple of apps pre-installed, like myO2, Evernote, smth else, but all could be easily removed if I wanted to. I don't actually think think that Windows Phone has a  bloatware problem altogether, but could be wrong here.

 

There's also a possibility to sign up for a Windows Developer preview programm in order to get all the updates (which are right enough betas, therefore might be buggy) from Microsoft directly. You'd need to download some app (can't remember the name right now) in order to activate it from the App Store.
