Adding music to my Nokia 515

Anonymous
Not applicable

..... Toby's thread about music

I have a Nokia 515 (as recommended by MI5 earlier in the year)

it has apps on it & more apps ..... but I've not touched any of those type of buttons because (1) I'm not sure what they do ..... & ..... (2) I'm frightened about running up an un-necessary bill ..... but I would like some music to listen to through earphones

I've stopped buying cd's from Amazon as its not economic & there maybe only one track I like eg recent Van Morrisson & Michael Buble purchases

I've not downloaded anything to my mobile

before coming into O2C I would regularly go into the town's O2 store for help ..... = ..... major reason I choose O2

would I be correct in thinking I would be able to go into the O2 store & ask them & they could look up my contract details & advise me? ..... I am conscious that every 15 minutes the staff are expected to make a sale & I do feel somewhat guilty if I'm not buying but only seeking advice

thank you :womanvery-happy:

yes, there is a red 'plug' & a black 'plug'

the red one looks to be the microphone

the black one looks to be for the headphones, as you say with the symbol on it

I've tried to play back a track on the Bruce Springsteen album & can get no sound

it's getting late in the day for my brain to function about this, but

does only the black headphone 'plug' go in the socket ? ie red 'plug' is unplugged ?

I checked that the microphone switch on the headphone wires was turned off

& that the volume control on the headphones was turned up halfway

the 3rd blue light from the left on my laptop was 'flickering' indicating that something was happening somewhere

sorry to be a bit of a nuisance slight_frown

If you play the track with no plugs in the sockets do you hear sound through the speakers?

If not are there volume keys on the laptop? These are usually indicated by pictures of a loudspeaker, a small one to lower volume and a larger one to increase it, and one with a cross or line through it to mute.

Otherwise there may be a speaker symbol at the bottom right of the screen. Clicking on this should bring up a slider where you can increase the volume.

GE @aldaweb

thank you for your help slight_smile

I have done as you describe & no sound from laptop's speakers

I know the track is playing 'through the system' as I can see the track's, I don't know what to call it, but 'timeline' in blue increasing to the right as the track is playing

to the bottom right hand side of the screen is a small histogram-like 'icon' with a red cross in it

this has been there for some time, but does not seem to interfere with the laptop's functioning

on c/o the icon the pop-up statement says at the top 'not connected', I think this means wi-fi

it says I am connected to Sky, which is my internet provider via Sky hub

it isn't the machine's at fault, I think, it's the operator ie me

it's getting on for 11pm aldaweb, so I'll close for now & repair to Wanty's Cheers

There should be a sound icon in the bottom right of your screen which you can click on to adjust the volume or use the + and - keys on your keyboard.

Hi Jane, just got in from work and see jonsie's posted a useful screenshot. If the red x is over the speaker symbol then sound is muted and you need to click it and adjust the slider. Good luck.
