mostly, yes.
one has just had a bout of conjunctivitis, and they both need to lose a little bit of weight but other than that they are fine.
Good to hear ... I look after Marty better than I look after myself :womanlol: ... no matter how I am he comes 1st ... I live on my own & he is a great comfort to me, he gives me unconditional love ... I've had cats for many years & cannot imagine my home without one, when my previous cat Wispa was put to sleep because her rear end had gone 14.1/2 years old & the vet said she was in chronic pain so no choice, my house wasn't a home, I was desperate to get another cat, & I decided upon a rescue cat, Marty kinda chose me, he nipped my hand when in his cubicle, he impressed me as he wasn't moaning & he had cleaned his meat bowl :womanvery-happy:

Not at all @Anonymous.
One of ours had a problem with crystals in his bladder, so we had to put him on a special diet for about a year and now we can only give him (and his brother) filtered water...
If you don't mind answering questions about this @gmarkj, did the vet say what caused it? We have really hard water in my area and I do worry sometimes if its bad for our 3 dogs and cat.

It was a combination of the food they have (dry only) and the water (we also live in a really hard water area).
He had to have his bladder flushed, go on tablets and get special food for a while (which made life really interesting as they had to be fed separately for ages!). The vet also said to get a filter jug and just give them water from that. It's not an expensive one, just the tesco own (other filter jugs are available...).
I spotted it two weeks before we were due to go on holiday - he kept going into and out of the litter box without doing anything, went off his food and just lay there looking sorry for himself. I felt his stomach and it felt full, so thought he needed to go to the vets. He said we caught it really early which is good as it means he would just be uncomfortable rather than in pain (else he might have clawed me when I felt his stomach).
Unfortunately now he has had them he is more prone to getting them again, so just keeping an eye really.

Just to add my 5 pennorth here... as one of my cats suffered with uric acid crystals (more common in cats than dogs by the way)
Different conditions contribute to the formation of different types of stones. Some of these may include:
As given to me by my vet....^^^^^
Basically one of mine had a couple of urine infections and though these were cleared up with antibiotics it left 'silt like' deposits in the bladder. These can then form calculi (stones )

I've had 2 cats over the years that have suffered with bladder crystals. It's quite common in cats apparently.

I'd appreciate your opinion / advice on the following re: my cat Marty:
he is microchipped, of course ... likes long lone adventures outside, won't start a fight, but will defend himself against the posh, Persian nasty cat on the street, who picks on him, Marty is the biggest cat on the street
very recently on Facebook some truly horrific incidents have happened by wicked / evil people to cats ... I belong to several cat groups on Facebook ... I choose not to describe the one particular incident I have in mind (pm me if you wish)
In my own previously quiet neighbourhood ... where I've lived for nigh on 25 years ... well, there is now a growing populaion of a certain 'Asian persuasion' ... they have their own community & jobs in Skipton ... & ... are now in my neighbourhood
these people don't like cats ... they kick them & throw stones at them ... & ... recently in these people's core community in town threatened a young family, friends of mine, with knifing their cat ... they did & left it in the gutter ... much money was spent on the cat, but in the end it was put to sleep ... the young family now have 2 rescue indoor cats
Re: my Marty (let alone me, empty end terrace next door to me) ... I had him made a purple (safety snap release) collar made with his name & my telephone number woven into it in white ... Marty is uncomfortable with it, keeps scratching at it, I've currently taken it off him, HAVE I DONE THE RIGHT THING?
Off on of my cat groups on Facebook, RSPCA put down a cat, where the pet cat had wandered a bit further away down its street, someone who the owner did not know, contacted RSPCA who euthenaised the pet cat
CPL Cats Protection League are better than RSPCA or a local cat charity / rescue like there is here in Skipton ie Craven Cat Rescue, there are a few others similar nearby

In my humble opinion if a cat is microchipped it does not need a collar. All my cats had collars when I first had them.
One nearly hung himself on a tree branch when he was 6 months old. The collar had come loose and got caught. ..I only heard him as I happened to be in the garden. My cattery takes all collars off the cats when they arrive. They have had a similar experience......I realise this is a personal opinion ....but I feel very strongly about it.
