Windows updates can sometimes break things also. I'm not a fan and still prefer 7.

Well I've since had an update which fixed the Office problem so maybe they're close now.

For those interested. it looks like its been made available via Windows Update again.
As I speak mine is indicating it is installing but I suspect it's more likely to be decompressing based on previous experience, a restart is usually required and the actual installation begins then.
At that point I usually think of the point in Jurassic Park (the original) when Samuel L Jackson sits down at a PC. types furiously for a bit and then shouts "Hold on to your butts!" while he waits for the system to reboot.
