I was wondering that too as my signal seems to have lowered... I used to get 4 bubbles and now just 2 😞
Remove your sim and clean it and look at your Service Status
Try both the resets.
Hold the sleep/wake button and home button until the Apple Logo appears and let go.
And or Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings.

I guess I shouldn't moan, some signal is better than none! Also my friend just had the hardest luck with his 5, it told him to connect to iTunes during the update and his phone got wiped! Lost everything ohh dear....
Was he updating OTA ?
I've never seen that kind of pop up.
I updated my iPad Air OTA and iPhone 6 via iTunes.
Hopefully he has an iTunes or iCloud back up.
My signal indicator has remained unchanged after my update.

He sure is angry because he had music on his phone from other peoples iTunes ohhhh dear...
Oh dear.
A poor recipe in its own right.
Music can be lost through an accidental sync.
