Had an email from O2 saying they had been advised by my bank that I had cancelled the DD. I checked my bank account and DD was still live and it has today been debited from my account. Am confused!! Email from O2 appears genuine and not a scam

Sounds like a scam, as I've never heard of O2 sending anyone an e-mail like that, @Deb123 -vthey usually complain at you that payment is late or has not been made.
Just make sure you did not click on any link in that e-mail in order to log-in to your O2 to check, as that could be how the scam works - interception of your connection to O2 to capture your password. Phishing, Smishing & Scams. Latest info & advice.

To be safe, I would be logging in from a new browser window or via the app and changing my password now...

was it an email like below, its genuine, and we have had it in the past usually at upgrade time where they do somat strange and they think they have cancelled the direct debit.
I would just login to my o2 and setup and new direct debit, and cancel the one at the bank..
I call it a feature of the ****** 360 platform

Well that's flushed out a few answers - thanks @madasaf1sh and @jonsie
And yes, do use your MyO2 app to ensure you have a working DD mandate in place - under "Account", then click "View all" near the end of the page on the right-hand side, then...
Good luck, @Deb123.
