no service

I lost service about 4pm and after switching off 3 or four times I checked the 02 website to see if any notices about faults. When I didnt see anything obviously there, I contacted my sister who lives just a mile away and her o2 service is working. I therfore put it down to a faulty phone. It was only on delving deeper into the o2 site that I found these discussions and find that many other people are having the same problem all round the country. Why oh why have o2 not put something prominent on their website to save all the wasted time and give us some idea how long the problem is going to last??????? EJ Accrington Lancs

No service since 12.30pm.  My wife's phone, also on O2, is unaffected.

As a paying customer, I find it unbelievable that I spent over an hour trying to find out what was wrong (engaged tones on customer support lines, rather than a recorded message; no announcement on the website and all the support pages unavailable) - luckily I stumbled across this page.

Anyway - After having my recent new handset order messed up, and now this, I will ask my lawyer friend to study my contract to see how quickly I can cancel it.  I will then take my 4 mobile phone accounts and 1 internet access account (spending a total of about £2,500 a year) to a more proactive provider.

I am a wife and I have no signal either - so not a conspiracy I'm afraid! Very, very frustrating - could they not have regular updates on their website? Why should we have to go searching for information....

More importantly - ok we all know things aren't working ( it seems your phone either works or not all ( not intermittent like O2 claim)-BUT - has anyone had their phone start working again - and if they did , did it just come on or did they have to reboot the phone?

Good to see I'm not the only one. My phone as well went down at 4pm today. I was supposed to have a business conference call. This is the 3rd time in 2 months. The last 2 times I phoned O2 and they said the area was down and if I needed my phone to get in the car and drive 10 miles to an area that was up. I have been with O2 for 5 years and these past 3 months have seen the most down time. Not impressed - especially with no updates or contacts. At least email us with an updated. The site only states there is an outage with some phones. How do you know if this is always the case and if it applies to my phone (Fife area). I put in a complaint and they emailed me back with a "48 hour" response time. There was a phone number on the email to call. I called it - and guess what. It's no longer valid...... LOL - I did check Ofcom and they (O2) appear to have the lowest customer complaint rates.
