You'd be far better off visiting your local store to upgrade, that way you actually get to see the phone you're getting beforehand plus the advisors (or Guru if the store has one) can demo the handset and transfer data from your old device.

I work for O2 but my comments and opinions posted here are solely my own and do not reflect those of Telefonica.

Are the stores interested in matching third party online offers that are much cheaper? Maybe I should just go to the third party. Do I need a PAC code to stay on O2 network but getting a contract through someone else? Thanks

A PAC is a code used to authorise a number port to a different network. You cannot use nor do you need a PAC if staying on the same network.
