Phone scam

Hi all. I had a call from a 'no caller id' number earlier today - they called themselves Air Direct. They knew all my details - except the bank/ address type of stuff. They were trying to act as a
Go between for O2 to get me to sign up to a new tariff - heavily discounted as I 'am a loyal customer'. Not sure how they got the details they did have but even so, when I challenged the guy, he got quite spiky (he was trying to get me to continue on the cheaper tariff and have to buy a new phone outright) I told him where to get off and contacted O2 to enquire. Was advised that all marketing will be done by O2 and as such, this was a scam. I guess the moral of the story is don't answer numbers you don't get displayed. Anyway, I didn't give him any more than abuse (justifiably so).

Take care

Hi,

O2 do allow some trusted partners to use their customer details.

You can turn this off in myo2 preferences or write to o2 to opt out.

Rule of thumb: Don't agree to anything from a cold call.

From O2's T&C.

I can't locate any company in the UK with this name, so unless the name is incorrect they don't appear to exist.

You did the right thing, No one should give their details out to this type of caller.

It's possible they're a new O2 Partner, but they're not listed yet and shouldn't be calling O2 customers at all in my opinion.

I had a similar thing when I was with Vodafone, a company kept calling me trying to get me to upgrade.  When I searched for the company name I couldn't find it and when I Googled the number it seemed as though quite a few people had been caught out.  They kept calling me and I was ever so nice the first couple of times but when I was told that I couldn't be removed from their list I really let rip!  I think I scared the guy on the phone - he said he was going to report me to Vodafone!

I am nice really!
