Although the press release suggests this, Tesco Mobile have not really "renewed" with O2.

Tesco Mobile is a 50/50 joint venture between O2 and Tesco ; probably the only way that would not "renew" was if Tesco wanted out and if O2 took over completely. 

I cannot see that there was ever a chance of O2 agreeing to Tesco Mobile becoming a joint venture with another mobile network operator.

And a 50 per cent share of a MVNO with 5 million customers must be a really good source of income for O2.
