I don't have emails for notifications enabled for that very reason. It would drive me daft with an inbox of useless emails when I can see perfectly well when I log on. So in all honesty this doesn't affect at all my time on here. I certainly don't want constant emails when I'm out and about just so I don't feel the need to respond until I'm ready.

It's all down to the way each individual works the forum @jonsie .
I like to see when I've been mentioned and those aren't working unless it's from the managerial staff.
Personally I'd rather delete loads than have none at all.

I also don't have emails enabled but I do rely on the notifications at the top of the page to see if anyone has mentioned me about a topic, so I miss that the most.
and that's exactly how I use the communiy. Fix that bit and I'm happy but I just start with the newest unread first and work my way through, seeing any mentions or kudos along the way.

I like to see the notifications so I can check who has responded to any comment I`ve made. I don`t check e-mails that often and when I do it isn`t too much of an issue to delete the ones from the forum which I`ve already seen [via notifications on the forum].

Whereas I rarely use notifications. I am now, even though they aren't working properly.
My routine on opening PC is to sign on and then open emails. Deal with forum emails first, opening 4-5 tabs as I go. Then straight to unread posts.
As I said, each to their own, as there isn't a 'right' way. What works for me, works for me.
In my 7 years here, I have worked like this and have no intention of changing now
As for seeing kudos, I just click on the box to see who gave it...
