9 times out of ten, the O2 staff at my local shop are clueless pretty boys or can't wait till Friday girls who are no more clued up than myself. That's not to say your local shop will be the same.
It's certainly worth a try plus they'll get through the switchboard quicker due to the shop agent code they possess.

We have been advised that o2 stores are not set up to deal with account queries and that customers should call o2 on 202 contract, 4445 payg or 0344 809 0202 if no access to an o2 mobile.

I've been aware that the shops are nothing more than a sales engine rather than any support. At least CPW do try to assist with product queries.
