Discussions about O2 and age verification

Just received a text from TPTB saying I need to confirm I'm over 18 to view adult material. Until then, it'll remain blocked on my phone. I don't have a credit card so I'll need to do this in store. Just wondering, I have no particular desire to view pornographic material or register to flirt websites on my phone but if I don't have this ban lifted, will it affect my general day-to-day browsing in any way? Otherwise, I won't bother.
Secondly, when did this come about? Never needed to confirm my age in the past. And why couldn't they have sorted this in store when I bought the phone?

Two days ago I visited a local O2 store and complained about the requirement to submit CC details to Bango. The shop assistant offered to do it in store for me (he could plainly tell I was over 18). He typed in my details and got a message back on his screen saying that they had discontinued in-store AV and it could now only be done using Bango. I told him that I would have to change provider. He did not even try to persuade me otherwise. What a shambles.
I am definitely moving to a new provider now, one which treats the customer with some respect. Before I go, I would like to give someone from O2 a last opportunity to tell me, via this forum, why I should not do so.

As o2 do not comment on this part of the forum you may as well just say your goodbyes and leave!

Of what, yes O2 set this up, some dont like it and want to compalain. 3 do all you can eat data so go and see if you can get a signal with them. Now I have given you some extra options if you are only interested in moaning about o2. See you later folks but using my own o2 account with research before any changes made I am quite happy with mine.

It never ceases to amaze me if they can't negotiate this site and post on the correct section, how do they find their way around something as complex as a smartphone 😮

This forum is "Discuss O2". O2 have plainly made a mess of this "child protection" policy, and discussing that should be allowed in this forum. It's not primarily a "mobile phone" problem, it applies to mobile broadband too, and if we don't tell O2 that they have got it wrong now they will apply it to landline broadband as well. Which forum do you think is the right one to discuss this problem?

it applies to mobile broadband too

So here's the mobile broadband forum thread
viewtopic.php?f=20&t=61152
And here's the mobile phone forum thread
viewtopic.php?f=18&t=61617
And here's the iPhone forum thread
viewtopic.php?f=25&t=61488
There was even one started in the Home Broadband and Home Phone forum !!!
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=61304
You see it doesn't help when the same problem is being discussed in different forums.

Agreed, so what is the proper forum for this problem (which crosses boundaries between at least two forums -- mobile phones and mobile broadband)?

On an effectively moderated forum, the moderators would lock the incorrect locations and combine the various threads into one thread in the correct section............hint, hint, hint wink
