I have been with O2 since before the change from "Cellnet", and yet I get nothing back for my loyalty. NHS staff get a discount. I retired from the NHS 18 months ago, and yet I am not entitled to a discount. I am a Service Veteran, and Service Veterans get nothing from O2. Not very good, is it?

Which I believe was replaced with the open code discount availability.

Yes it was.

I was told by the Shop Manager in Kilmarnock, that there are no discounts for NHS pensioners and no discounts for Service Veterans, the two situations that apply to me. If these discounts do exist, then I have been lied to by an O2 shop manager and paying full price for my monthly contract as a result.
I can confirm that your discount for the NHS ceases when you stop working for them (or when you tell them you no longer work for them)
