Charges for calls not made

Hi

I've just returned fron a caravan touring holiday in france. On checking my mobile phone bill, I found that there were 17 calls to a firm in my home town in england. I've never heard of this firm and made no calls to them. O2 don't believe me and insist that I made thes calls from my phone and from my SIM.

As a gesture of goodwill they have given me half the cost back, so it's only cost me about £6 so the money is not important. However, someone has stolen this from me and I would like to know how it's been done. O2 say it's impossible, but someone out there knows how to do it.

Has anyone any thoughts on this?

It is possible to clone a SIM card. I would start off with a replacement SIM. More bad news is that it is possible to clone a phone IMEI also, so if you get repeated theft from you the only option is to replace the phone also. Have you reported it to the Police.... There may be other reported cases thay are looking into....?

Very strange! In the event of a cloned sim it seems unusual to make calls to just one UK company, I would have expected massive charges worldwide.

Thanks MI5. that's useful. You're he only person who seems to be saying it's possible. I'll go down to the police station next week and see if they're interested.

I would phone the company and make some enquiries.

Thanks Mach. i've tried that. It's a firm of solicitors and they don't want to give me any information. I'm not sure they could find out anyway. The calls were to their switchboard.

If you're absolutely certain that you or one of your family has not used the phone to call the company, then I'd give them one more chance after warning them that they, or one of their employees, might be party to a conspiracy to defraud, then if no joy, report it to the police.

In the old days when roaming you could be charged for the incomming call i.e. they were calling you.

O2 travel has stopped this but I think the issue needs investigation on your bill around the same time is there a call to your number or voice mail 901.

Remember you still get charged 50p for a call recieved, so an incoming call that diverts to voicemail could well be the cause, as indicated by adamtemp64.
