All mail to hotmail accounts blocked from relay.o2broadband.

Since yesterday, every mail I send to a hotmail account (4 different accounts - hotmail.com & hotmail.co.uk) are being blocked for the following reason.

- These recipients of your message have been processed by the mail server:
address@hotmail.com; Failed; 5.3.0 (other or undefined mail system status)

Remote MTA mx1.hotmail.com: network error

- SMTP protocol diagnostic: 550 SC-002 Mail rejected by Windows Live Hotmail for policy reasons. The mail server IP connecting to Windows Live Hotmail has exhibited namespace mining behavior. If you are not an email/network admin please contact your E-mail/Internet Service Provider for help. I have my own domain, hosted elsewhere, with our own email servers, but because I use O2 broadband, I am forced to send mail via relay.o2broadband.co.uk

This hasn't been a problem until yesterday. It looks like hotmail is blocking the O2 relay server because of some bad behaviour. I have spoken to tech support, but they want to charge me for the call because the address I am using is not my O2 account. I think that is irrelevant in this casee, as the problem is related to the O2 relay server, the mail is coming directly from my Outlook account, not from my domain host server.

Does anyone have any idea as to how this can be resolved? If support can contact Hotmail and get the relay server unlisted.........

Couldn't you just use your domain/email provider's SMTP on a different port to 25? Relaying your email is generally not a good idea.

I'm having the same problem...hotmail blocked as having to route via O2 broadband for my own domain email address.

Has anyone had any solution offered by O2 for this problem? I'm still awaiting a reply from customer services.

We can't be the only ones out there needing to use a consistent email address for a number of locations and paying for a broadband service that has worked fine up until now.

I'll check on this, but I wouldn't be relaying my email at all if O2 didn't block me from accessing my own mailserver and force me to relay through their relay server. Have been doing this since I became an O2 customer, it has worked fine for the last 12 months or so, the problem only started this weekend. I never had this problem on previous broadband providers, maybe it's time to consider switching provider again.

Should be solved by now

relay.o2broadband.co.uk & smtp1.bethere.co.uk resolve to the same address.

Best thing to do though is follow

Thanks very much for letting me know the above. I have resolved through my domain host, they gave me an alternative port to connect to. I have set up my Outlook to connect that way and it all sends fine.

Hi there,

I'm trying to use my hotmail account to receive e-mails from another account but of course I need to add all the POP mail server settings within hotmail to receive mail. But I keep getting an error message.

"There's a problem connecting to the POP mail server. Make sure that the server name and port you entered are correct. The best way to do this is to check with your other e-mail provider. You're looking for the "incoming mail server", which is probably listed under something like "POP access settings".

I have input the following settings:

E-mail address: the one I want to receive e-mails from
POP3 user name: myname@o2.co.uk
Password: same password as in my outlook express
Incoming mail server: pop.o2.co.uk
Port: 110
