My son gave me his old iphone4 at christmas, the contract on it with O2 ended in 2012, his wife has been using it on Giffgaff and I need to get it unlocked to use on my 3 account, I requestd an unlock on the 28th December and was promised it would be done within 72 hours, I have been on live chat for over 5 hours during the last 5 days, being passed from one department to another and being asked the same questions over and over again. could someone please tell me how to get the phone unlocked, I have sent a complaint by email to O2 but it will take 7 days for them to respond, any help from this forum would be appreciated, as my old sim will deactivate shortly and my new microsim will not fit in my old phone. thanks

Thanks M15, I would have thought that the sales assistant was trained enough to advise me what I needed when I was there.
I will have to top up the phone with another £10 to make some calls. I could try O2's online chat again but from my previous experience I don't think the staff on there are trained at all. I am deaf and have two hearing aids so find it difficult to phone people, I only have a mobile phone so no land line and premium rate calls are expensive anyway. Hence my use of online help, when it is available

As far as I can see the only redeeming feature of O2 is this community.

What a palaver! I feel so annoyed on @Anonymous 's behalf. A total lack of consideration shown by O2 for any client. Not being funny and not including myself here....but its a damn good job this forum exists to give people help and support. O2 probably realise the forums worth though.
Hope it all gets sorted soon
