hi

very sad and disappointed with o2 refresh.because i cant unlock my iphone 5s unless i pay it off,i m traveling abroad soon but i cant take my phone with me as its not unlocked.i been an o2 customer since 2002 on payg and been on o2 contract with o2 since 2004.when i upgraded my contract i was never told that i cant unlock my device untill its fully paid off.i only came into know when i rang o2 for unlocking.its totaly unfair for all of us o2 customers.it realy made me upset and angry.if i knew that i never would have gone with o2.i got 3 contracts with o2 and told all my friends and family to get o2 contract.but after all this il never recomand anyone to go with o2.

very SAD,ANGRY and DISAPOINTED thanx to o2

Have you visited the apple store the iphone was purchased from ?

Have you played dumb and simply walked in with the receipt and said " hey specialist i bought this iphone from here and put an o2 sim card in it, but didnt like their charges so i wanted to use vodaphone, but the iphone wont accept the sim in this unlocked sim free iphone.

Help.

Specialist " Oh lets have a look "

Yup.

Theirs nothing I'm aware of that o2 can do remotely or by simply inserting a sim card in a sim free unlocked iphone.

The iphones are split into two categories.

Contract - These lock out to the first sim inserted.

Sim Free - These remain unlocked forever.

I visited an apple store on Saturday to ask about their trade in programme and they did say that they would want me to activate a sim free iphone instore before leaving.

I asked do the sim free iphones ever lock out to the first sim inserted and was told quite categorically No they dont carrier lock.

I purchased my iPhone 5 from the meadowhall apple store and have had every payg sim network card in it to play around with different signals etc. No lockout has ever taken effect.

O2. I have been on live chat with 4 different people now, the first 2 between them were unreal, they told me that yes we can do it but you need to go and buy a PayGo SIM and make a call from it, then in 24hours come back and we will unlock it. I did that, and when I went back to them they told me they couldn't do it because my PayGo balance was less than £15, so I topped up to £20. Then he told me, sorry we can't do it at all as you didn't buy the phone from us.

That's the standard line from the remaining people. No we will not unlock it as you didn't buy it from us. And No we won't refund the £20 we told you to spend on PayGo SIMs.

Also what you have been told by Live Chat IMO is wrong.

This is a quote from Info I obtained from an official source.

"

Pay & Go IPhone

If the iPhone was purchased from O2, Apple, CPW or Phones 4u not for use on O2, O2 is unable to unlock their iPhone.

If the iPhone was purchased from O2, Apple, CPW or Phones 4u for use on O2, the phone will need to have been used against the customers number.

There is a charge of £15 to unlock the iPhone"
