Did you do a phone reset from back up or as a new phone?
Alternatively, you could book in at Apple for the phone to be looked at in the Genius Bar as it may be an issue with the antenna in the phone.
You can book an appointment at the Genius Bar at the following link: http://concierge.apple.com/reservation/gb/en/techsupport/

GPS will only update if you have a good line of sight to the satellites? Are you in an area where you should get good coverage?

Line of site of satellites is not an issue as other phone with GPS works.
Any other ideas as it did work a while ago (which was probably the software version before)
