I have iPhone 4s on o2 pay monthly with iPhone data bolt on.
I am having problems getting VVM to work at all, as soon as I hit the VM button in phone section it immediately dials 901 and I have to access messeages that way. Reading forums sjows lots of people have similar issues and a number of suggested workarounds to sorting it. I have tried resetting network settings, resetting all settings all with variouse options of switching Vm on and off and sending text message to 9011 etc.. Last night I did a complete restore and then restored my backup and as experienced by others this did not solve the problem.
o2 on line chat resulted in me being sent the APN settings for voicemail which was already set up with the same settings anyway so no joy there. Is restoring the phone as a new phone and setting it all up again the only option left?

No don't do a sim swap with your son as he is with Orange and the cellular data settings will be incorrect. This is also why you should only do it with someone who is on a similar plan to you as I believe Pay as you Go use different cellular settings.
When you do the sim swap and follow advice about signing out of iMessage and Facetime beforehand, do the test and ascertain whether vvm is working or not in a timely manner.
As macblank says, swapping sim will not copy any data over to another phone, but if the sim receives an sms or mms message when in another phone, the message will stay on that phone, so it is something to consider if you constantly receive sms/mms messages all the time. However they can be forwarded and then deleted off the incorrect phone.

Good point about APN settings on my Son's Orange phone, didn't think of that. Thanks for reminding me.

Well, colleague in work wasnt keen on swapping sims and I didn't want to push it so that trial is a no go. I will have to accept that I cannot currently get VVM on my iPhone. I don't suppose its a must have facility for me just that if it should be there I would prefer if it was.
Maybe it will just appear as it has with some other people facing the same issue.
Thanks all for your input and great suggestions just a shame that I havent managed to get any of them to work on my phone. If anything changes, or I manage to get it working somehow, I will report back for others facing the same issue.

That's a shame.
Last question, can you tell me what version of O2 carrier settings is on your phone. You can see it under Settings => General => About under Carrier after O2. Is it version 13.0 ?

Ok I just wanted to rule out that out. You never said how long you have had the iPhone. Did you have it before iOS 6 was released, and if so was vvm working before then ?

Well if you want, I can give you instructions to try and install iOS 5.1.1 on your phone to see if that works. The only thing I suggest is that if you try it, rename your iPhone to something else first so that any backups do not overwrite your latest iOS 6.0 backup.
I just need to verify the site where you can download the 5.1.1 .ipsw file first so give me a few minutes.
