Unlock iPhone 5S on the Refresh Tarriff

Hey guys!

 

I took out a new refresh contract with the iPhone 5S. I needed it unlocked as I need it for use on two networks, when I enquired about the unlock on live chat, I was told they would unlock the handset, but only after the phone plan had been paid in full.

 

I then called customer services to check this information was correct, and I was assured it was, so paid the phone plan in full, went back to live chat, and they submitted a unlock request.

 

The next day - an email arrived from 'back office support' stating they are not yet authorised to unlock iPhone 5S handsets!

 

I spoke to customer services again who stated that was incorrect and passed it back through! Im a little worried as I dont want it to go past my cooling off period and then they say that cant do it! 

 

Anyone here in the same boat or successfully had your iPhone 5S unlocked?

Same here, bought from CPW, locked to O2 by giffgaff SIM, giffgaff don't do unlocks and O2 don't want to know.

 

I'm taking it to the Telecoms Ombudsman after the 8 week time limit is up.

O2 won't unlock ant 5s just yet. I'ts the same with every launch. You'll get no where with any ombudsman so just be patient.

Where does 8 weeks come in to it?

 

CPW are selling these and on their website it says they will lock to the first network used.

Ofcom won't be able to help as they don't take individual complaints and this is not an issue where they can make a decision.

The reason behind the policy relates to phones bought from O2 so it doesn't apply to the CPW situation.

 

I'll see what the Ombudsman thinks and report back.

You said you bought one from CPW so they are the retailer concerned here.

 

You have no argument with O2 as all they did was lock it as the CPW site said they would.

 

Which Ombudsman are you talking about, Ofcom will not look at this?
