Data allowance exceeded iphone 5

I know this has been discussed before but as a technophobe I can't get my head around it.  I've had an iphone 3, 4 & 5 with no problems & find them (with help from the kids) easy to use.  I got my iphone 5 in December & have had no problems until now.  Yesterday I received a text to say that I had used 80% of my data (in 2 weeks).  I have an allowance of 750 mb & looking back at previous bills I use on average 250mb, generally email & Facebook.  If the phone was the problem why has it taken until now to use the extra data? I was out of the country for 10 days recently & only used wifi where available so maybe I had a massive app update on my return, but surely if they had been updated in the UK daily the data usage would have been over 10 days & the same anyway.  I'm happy to pay for extra data if I've used it but the biggest use was on a day when I was at work & hardly used my phone & O2 can't give me a breakdown of what I used on that day. Help!

Hi

Look in settings , mobile and each app shows what data has been used.

This is on iOS 7.

Just remember to reset the statics after your allowance refresh.

Another option is to make an appointment at an Apple Genius Bar where they would run a diagnostic on the iPhone.

You're not alone with being mystified by strange data use.
I would ask O2 to investigate this extra usage further, esp considering your history over previous months.
