unlocking Sony Xperia Z (c6603)

Anonymous
Not applicable

I'm on pay monthly with o2 and have an Xperia Z locked to the o2 network. I have requested an unlock code which has arrived but I do not understand the instructions:

Insert a o2 active network sim

From the idle screen type left**left

This will bring you into the service menu where you can access the unlock menu

Does this mean that I have to remove and reinsert the sim in order to bring up the "idle" screen? If so, will I lost any data/settings by removing the sim?

Any help gratefully received

What on earth, wrong instructions.
They should have sent a code to enter when putting a non O2 Sim in the phone.

Looks like they've sent you instructions for a Windows phone?
Just put a Three, EE or Voda sim in the phone and turn on. A box will pop up asking for the code to be entered.

I'm too very puzzled by the O 2 automated response, not understanding what I need to do, but inserting a non O2 simply didn't bring a pop up box.

Any other advice on how I can insert my unblocking code?

If no pop up box and a non o2 sim is inserted the phone is likely already unlocked, but you need a voda, three or ee sim to unlock the phone.
