Samsung has confirmed the Jelly Bean update is now available.

Update 20/10:

As you might have noticed, this hasn't gone live yet. We were expecting it to on Friday and are working with Samsung to figure out what went wrong and will update ASAP.

Hey Guys,

Good news! The wait time is almost over for Samsung Galaxy SIII users. From tomorrow, 19th October '12, you'll be be able to upgrade to the much awaited 4.1 Jelly Bean update over Wi-Fi or via Kies.

If you have activated the 'auto-update' feature from out of box, you will be prompted to download the 4.1 Jelly Bean update.

Do I have to backup my phone, before I install the update, will it wipe my phone?

I'm just asking because HTC firmware updates use to do this, and restored it to factory settings!

Kies will automatically do a back up. If you do it OTA there will not be an auto back up but the update is non wipe so your settings and data will remain anyway. Always wise to make backups on a regular basis though....

I received the update this morning, nice touch was a PM from Leonard mentioning that an upgrade was available, thank you. I was put on the queue for the OTA upgrade so went the Kies route, all was straight forward, updated in about 10 minutes.

Usually if you bought your Samsung Galaxy S3 from Carphone Warehouse etc you will be more than likely to have been given an unlocked mobile.
