Update 22/10, 8:00:

Samsung has confirmed the Jelly Bean update is now available.

Update 20/10:

As you might have noticed, this hasn't gone live yet. We were expecting it to on Friday and are working with Samsung to figure out what went wrong and will update ASAP.

Original message:

Hey Guys,

Good news! The wait time is almost over for Samsung Galaxy SIII users. From tomorrow, 19th October '12, you'll be be able to upgrade to the much awaited 4.1 Jelly Bean update over Wi-Fi or via Kies.

If you have activated the 'auto-update' feature from out of box, you will be prompted to download the 4.1 Jelly Bean update.

JB

Hi Holme, might be me, but I don't understand. I have been informed and so far, we have been communicating everything we're sure about.

However, if we don't have any additional information we can communicate, there's nothing more I can do than to repeat that.

Sorry Leonard I'm not having a go at you, I was under the impression that Samsung had an update, sent it to providers to then pass onto their users with whichever modifications they felt necessary.
Therefore thinking the problems are down to o2 not Samsung?
Also how come Apple have their phones with various providers & seem to be in control of their updates yet Samsung seen to be so reliant on providers?
Just seems like a farce compared to the iPhone I've had for the past 3 years!

Apple flatly refuse to allow any customisation of their FW so they can control it better. The whole point of Android is open source so anyone can tweak it and therefore impossible to control by one source. Remember, it is owned by Google, not Samsung anyway.

The software roll-out differs from manufacturers to manufacturers, so you can't really compare the two.

As I said, we're finding out what's gone wrong and will give you a full update on the situation ASAP.

So since 14:30 today theres been absolutley no update? and the update @ 14:30 didnt even describe a problem it just mentioned something had gone wrong with release. So neither O2 or samsung have figured this out in nearly 24hrs that this has been a problem?

This isnt directed at u leonard but at O2s and Samsungs incompetence to even divulge what the problem is to begin with its highly unprofessional from 2 companies highly regarded in the communications industry.

People, remember, its ONLY and update, if you really didn't like your nice new s3 before hand then this update isn't gonna make any difference and I suggest you sell it to someone more appreciative and buy whatever you would like. If you're enjoying the new phone then this update will just improve things but whats the rush as you're already enjoying it. Its not as though its sitting waiting to explode or catch fire if it doesn't get an update within hours of being notified.

The guy on here from O2 (Leonard i think) is doing what he can to keep us updated with accurate information but don't be under the impression for one minute that his only purpose in life is to reply to people complaining that the update isn't on their phone yet, he has most certainly got better things to be doing. I have read the same posts as everyone else, so stop panicking and go do something usefull or relaxing while waiting.

I like my S3 and even tho it has a few silly bugs its still quite a good phone, with or without Jelly Bean

Paddyman - It's not about the (jellybean) update..... it's the way the update has been handled

Scotty.

Grow up.

O2 thought they had the update ready, released an update time and date and then discovered a problem.  This is the first time i've seen o2 anounce an update.

Maybe they should just keep their mouths shut and make it a SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
