Does anyone know of a way to toggle 3G/2G on a Nexus 4 that has been upgraded to Android 4.4.2. I used to be able to switch between network types easily but it just shows 3G preferred now.
I need to enable 2G at home as the 3G signal drops so low that I do not get calls, this is happening more regularly on the handset and is all now happening at work.
On the train today the 3g signal was sitting at -101db according to the network signal app, I could not make calls, get a data connection and rather than switching to GSM I lost all signal.
I have accessed the test menu and toggled between 'WCDMA Preferred' and 'GSM' to try and get round this but it's not a neat solution to the issue.
O2 Chat support have kindly had me factory reset my handset and are sending a new SIM to try and alleviate the issue of calls not connecting when I have a signal, but I'm not hopeful of the new sim resolving this issue so need a toggle workaround

So no contigency plan for network crapness. I'm appalled.....to be honest, my O2 3G reception is still patchy in some areas.

My current options are 2G only, 2G/3G and 4G/3G/2G (auto). Note this is still 4.2.2.

That's what this thread is about, those with an O2 sim no longer have that choice.
I thought it was 4.4.2 causing it but it seems not.

I don't think o2 firmware is neccesarily an issue, as i believe this is the lg european firrmware. Although it does seem to be carrier locked so i don't get it really.
Anyway using auto should lock onto the best signal,

I'm not using O2 firmware it's standard Google, but around the time of the update to 4.4.2 the option to select 2G has gone.
The feeling seems to be this is down to O2 but I'm still not sure.

Think I've found the solution....
Reduce monthly data bolt on to 0
Wait until next payment goes out and then cancel contract with 3 months to run
Change SIM to Three/VirginMobile/TMobile/Orange
Swap number to new SIM
O2's 3G network is so unreliable in the Central Belt in Scotland that I am being forced to change provider. It's disappointing as I would likely have stayed with O2 and upgraded my handset in March.
