Mobile Internet charges

Anonymous
Not applicable

I've just been abroad (US) and got a large bill with £40 of "Mobile Internet browsing and downloads" yet I turned off Data Roaming on my Samsung SII before going abroad. While I was away I made a single phone call and sent/recieved a few SMS. Not happy!!

What does one have to do to avoid roaming data bills?

Hi,

Either set up http://www.o2.co.uk/international/o2-travel or turn off 3g and mobile data when abroad, buy a local sim whilst your abroad and use that if your phone is unlocked or simply dont take your phone at all if thats an option.

You say you switched off Data Roaming, but did you also have Mobile Network switched off? Best thing to do when you're in the US is to take the O2 sim out of your phone and use a local sim, especially as you used the phone so infrequently. Or use the TuGo app and make any calls or send texts when you're in a WiFi area.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2

As Damien said it may be worth giving customer services a call. I normally advise customers to turn both data roaming and mobile data off just to be safe.

If its the first time its happened to you customer services will sometimes look into crediting back the charges or some of the charges at least as a goodwill.
