HTC One Mini - Constantly rebooting

Anonymous
Not applicable

My missus has a HTC One Mini and it has decided to constantly reboot itself. (every minute)

Googling around this seems to be a worryingly common occurence on most HTC handsets.

Some people are saying a complete reflash of the device is the only way to get it back. But some reporting even that doesn't fix it.

Problem is my missus has left a load of pictures on the phone of my 1 year old.

Her dropbox account was full so there are hundreds of precious pictures on the phone which we cannot get to.

Does anyone know how we can recover the phone enough to get the pictures off it.

It doesnt stay alive long enough to connect a USB and get the photos off.

I have been into the recovery menus but there is no real options which helps me and the USB seems to be disabled once in recovery mode.

Any ideas would be welcome.

Can you try this:
Turn fastboot off in your power settings.
Switch off the device.
Power it on
Once you see the HTC splash screen, press and hold the Volume Up key till the phone boots up in Safe Mode.

This turns off all the bells and whistles and runs as basic as possible. Maybe restricting the thing causing the shutdown.

Yes, I tried safe mode. No use.

It still reboots every minute.

Hi

A stressful Situation for anyone when a phone fails holding data precious.

It may be the case that you will need to contact the Uk Support site of the manufacturer for assistance or as a secondary choice an O2 shop to get the phone remedied.

Hopefully you can find a workaround solution to retract the pictures. Maybe also leave a post in a dedicated HTC based forum too.

Let us know how you get on.

Have you tried wiping the SYSTEM CACHE PARTITION in the recovery?

Yes, tried wiping the cache. No use either. Still reboots

All the forums say you need to do a factory reset. Obviously this wipes the photos.

There is some recovery software out there. Which may be able to recover the photos once i've factory reset the phone. But not confident of them. Has anyone used one before?

Ok, not too confidant about the recovery software, I wouldn't be either.
I would visit the XDA developer forum dedicated to HTC one mini and ask them if there is flashing program that has an option that keeps user data intact.
I know with Sony flashtool, the option is there to keep the user data partition but with HTC I'm not too sure and wouldn't want to misadvise you.
If the flash program is there that has the option, it would be simply a case of downloading the correct firmware, unticking a box regarding user data and flashing the new rom.
I'll update this post with a link for the correct forum.

This quote is from the HTC website relating to a hard reset:

"Files such as your music, photos, videos, and documents can also be deleted from the storage, if you chose to do so."

What I glean from that is that it may be possible for you to do a factory restore and not delete your photos.

You've probably already been there, but here is the link:

As viridis says, no one wants to misadvise you. The decision to do this is ultimately yours.
