I have changed to a sim only plan and since then I am getting notifications saying so sim

detected and have no signal atall for nearly 24 hours

If PAYG, you need to top up first. Guide How to Top Up (PAYG) 

Otherwise you may need a new sim. Pop instore with ID and get one. If contacting O2, all ways in this guide
