phone is up and running but i cannot recieve or send text messages, phoned yesterday to reg the sim but still nothing, prob something simple but its got me flummoxed.

Just an Update, specific teams in o2 are now investigating and i'll post as soon as we get more, for now it seems like its not specific to handsets, although that is also being looked at also just to be sure, please bear with us, I understand how frustrating it must be.
