Mobile Data Roaming not working properly whilst in Italy.

Whilst in Italy last week, I had constant issues with my mobile data. On the first day, it worked perfectly, however the rest of the trip was plagued with issues. It mostly would not connect at all, sometimes I could fix it by repeatedly switching on and off the Airplane mode feature, it would sometimes then work for a few hours or a few minutes, before cutting out again. I'm a new O2 customer so this is the first time using data abroad, however I am going to Poland in a few weeks and do not wish to go through the same stresses. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Some things to try:
1 - Reboot phone. (or toggle airplane mode).
2 - Manually search for a different network
3 - If using an iPhone, change data apn to "mobile.o2.co.uk"
4 - Turn off 5g and try 4g or turn off 4g and try 3g.
5 - Check data roaming is turned on.
6 - Check with O2 for any roaming bars.
