My Dad has received a text saying that his phone is not 4G compatible.
I have a new easy to use 4G compatible phone which he can have. I checked to see if it was compatible using the O2 phone checker and it said it wasn't.
The text sent from O2 suggested a phone, the HMD 105, available from O2 shops, however, according to the checking website, this too is incompatible despite the text saying it is.
I contacted O2 but they were very unhelpful.
I contacted the manufacturer of the phone I already have and they say it is O2 compatible.
The checking website is

Has anyone else had this issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The text messages are going out to everyone it seems, and its better to catch all users than miss some, and it is doing what it is expected to by checking the data..
The problem is that using the first 8 digits will catch both the 2G and 4G variants of the Nokia/HMD 105 (HMD make both).
For a change not a lot o2 can do, unless HMD change the first 8 of the IMEI number.

As long as you can see 4g in the status bar when using an O2 sim, it will be fine.
The problems arise further down the road if you are using a PAYG sim.

Thanks for the reply.
It really is a shame that O2 customer service would not tell me that.
They said to purchase the phone and if it doesn't work exchange it for another until one works!

o2 CS are completely and utterly useless at the moment, but ask them about PLDT and they will know...
Wish they would do a BT and bring a lot of CS back to UK as sort of Unique selling point, but they are on a race to reduce costs,...

Wonder how O2 will react to the new kid on the block?
