Hi folks
My mum who is blind, relies on Google Asst and for the most part it is excellent.
She has an unlocked Huawei Y7 2019 and has just started a new contract with O2 after coming from EE.
I have updated everything i can think of from a software pov, but i have a feeling that there is an issue with her APN config, but for the life of me i cant remember how to adjust it.
Im sure its mobile.o2.co.uk as default.
anyway, she asks google to create a text and send to me, it creates, verifies recipient and sends, within a second she recieves a message stating 'sorry but the sms is not configured correctly'
If i send a text manually its no issue, but as she is blind she cannot do this manually.
When on EE, this was not an issue - hence why i think its an O2 config issue and not a google issue
Can anyone give me step by step 'idiots guide' please?
many thanks in advance

I don't suppose the contact is duplicated at all @Rodster ?

nope defo not, she has 20 or so contacts and no duplicates.
This all worked on EE and has done from day one but now on O2 it doesnt.
I even updated all her contact info from within google, deleting old numbers and ensuring only her gmail account was active so there could be no other 'confusion' from an account pov....

The only sms difference between EE and O2 is delivery reports. You can't get a normal delivery report with O2 unless you use special characters in the message so if delivery reports are turned on in sms settings it may be causing a conflict.
After that, I can only think of trying a new sim.....

what about setting up WhatsApp to be the default app, could google ass do that?
No idea but at this point I'd try anything.....

couple of things ive noticed.
1: Google hadnt verified the new number - rectified and made no difference
2: tried everything with and without country code - made no difference
Then I uninstalled and reinstalled 'messages' -
updated all apps on Play Store
updated software (8.2.x i think)
hard reset and wiped all caches etc
No Difference.
So i thought *beep!* it, installed WhatsApp and lo and behold it worked!!
However, once installed, her previous text messages did not show ID of the contact, only the number itself.
in contact app all was fine
in phone app all was fine
in whatsapp all was fine
so i checked my contact entry for her and it was fine, in phone it was fine, whatsapp was fine but in messages it showed her number only and not her name.
i dont know why but it seems to be something in the contacts app, i think so anyway.
I am genuinely confused but tbh, just glad of a solution in whatsapp! Even better is the fact that both google asst and her Echo/Alexa are working great.
Many thanks for your help and advice and at least there is a workaround

Glad you found a workaround @Rodster
Are her contacts stored on sim or phone?

All contacts stored on phone, some in 07 and some in country code format - tried both, still wouldnt send through google ass.
yip, just glad of the workaround too mate and she is quite happy as long as there is a way to send messages (read: shopping list lol)
many thanks again mate
