open code

Hi all
So got a new xperia z1 compact. Fantastic. Was told I could have the open discount as I am nhs staff. Did not see it applied to bill. Went to ormskirk O2 store. Helpful lady acquired code on my phone, but then seemed to apply the code on her phone. Is this normal? I have had no message back since regarding the discount.

Hi @Anonymous and Welcome to the Community Forum,

The Open Code should have been applied to your account for the discount.

I would ring o2 on 202 for account clarification.

So I spoke to customer services 202, was basically told to speak to the shop. Spoke to the shop. Re-applied the discount code to my mobile number, still no reply. This is looking like a basic marketing scam now. Someone sells you a higher tariff phone than you originally wanted as a discount is applied. What is not told is that it is after sales and takes an age to be sorted. So is it time to cancel the contract? Quite possiblly, bloody shame though as the phone is mint.

Hi.

Well you have 7 working days from taking out the contract to fully cancel it.

Also it's fair to say you shouldn't have to do all the running around.

Perhaps think about escalating this via the online complaint form.

If within 7 days you can cancel but I don't understand why getting the discount confirmed is proving so difficult.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

  • So spend over an hour on the chat line. tried to cancel was told had to pay £480 settlement. Spoke to 4 different people who all just basically tried to get me to apply for the code again.

Sujay at customer services says that the discount takes between 30 and 90 days to be applied to your account. How is this a monthly discount? Although he did say that the discount is retrospectively applied.

  •  The guy called Sujay then ended the chat after telling me that I should have bought the phone online as the shop can basically tell you anything to get you to buy the phone. The customer services department does not deal with the discount, as the 'back hand' team does that and surprisingly are not available to be contacted on chat. So I have to return to the shop to sort this out. Never, ever again. I have been an o2 customer for a number of years for bband and mobile, shocking treatment

Pete, from the phone you want to add the code to, can you send....

OPEN followed by your open code, mobile number, name and postcode.

Can you let me know what text you get back from it? Also, when did you take out your contract?

Got a text back saying they would get back in 48 hours after checking details. The contract was taken out on 8th Feb, when I was promised the discount. What I wasn't told was half of the above.

I have escalated this and also got in touch with trading standards, for some advice. Don't want to cancel, just want what was promised

Now, did you get that 48 hours text before when it was originally sent off?

It's optimistic that it's given you that message rather than anything else. Sometimes the code doesn't get applied by mistake, but you will get it backdated so don't worry about that.
