Simply because of O2 Refresh which allows you to upgrade to another device earlier.

A lot of people prefer to do this. Also the device is on a credit agreement so you pay for that.

Simple answer:

You are paying for the benefits that o2 refresh gives you.

You are free to choose any mobile phone retailer, but just remember if you do the following will apply:

If you want to upgrade earlier your will pay a lot more, (contract length left x monthly payment - 20%(VAT)) you cant add o2 open discounts, free 6mths Disney plus.

So as you can see why people prefer to take refresh as its more convienent and at the end of the day o2 aren't a charity and can charge what they like to be fair, somer things are cheaper on o2, some are more expensive.

- Pixel 8 Pro - o2 and Vodafone UK

I get where your coming from but would be happy to pay £1049 over 36 months+ Air time plan..

Not happy to pay £90-£150 more than Apple Argos PC world etc for the device think that's a joke/rip off

Why do Phone companys charge more for the Device is it there way of making more money?

We have explained above why the prices are higher.

Most people can't afford to buy a phone outright and they certainly wouldn't have the opportunity to upgrade early. Nor would they benefit from O2 Open or Priority.

It's all down to personal choice and how you prefer to pay.

To be honest @ITFCJosh

If you buy the iPhone on a credit card in each of those stores you will be paying a lot more than refresh, and most people dont have over a £1K to buy a mobile device.

The best option if you dont want refresh is to take Apple's credit deal and then get a sim only contract direct from o2
