network coverage

there seems to be some hassle o2 network cover wise in the north west of northern ireland, any reason why???

O2 doesn't seem to be working in New York USA for mobile reception. both phones are 'no service'!

Do a manual network selection and choose a different network.

In NYC the main networks are T-Mobile or AT&T so try and select either of those...

If you're in NY and roaming using the O2 network the affiliate is AT&T. I use T-Mobile when I'm in the US, but it's with a T-Mobile sim in an unlocked phone. Roaming with an O2 sim using a US network is very expensive. You will come back to the UK and face a very hefty bill, which is why I use T-Mobile over there. If I need to call the UK I use Skype over WiFi.
