Your best bet is to use Wifi wherever possible, keep in touch with people via Messenger and Skype. Turn off mobile data/data roaming . Also voicemail.

Switch off Mobile/Cellular data and use wifi only or use a local sim card if your phone is unlocked. You can easily get it unlocked through the link in My O2
