@AnonymousIf you don't pay your bill you will get cut off. It's as simple as that. Had you contacted O2 a couple of weeks before now and told them you had a problem they may have delayed your payment date
The only way to get your service resumed is to pay your bill and then contact customer services. You may be liable for a late payment fee. https://www.o2.co.uk/contactus

You agreed to pay on time when you signed the agreement so the onus is on you not O2. As you have been told the system is auto generated only by speaking to customer service can it be overridden but they may not have action the request

O2 staff seem unable to or have no access to override the system. All they will do is put a note on your account. Simple to have a direct debit set up to take payment after your payday?
