Upgrades and using old sim card

Hi, not sure if anyone can help me. I recently upgraded to the Samsung galaxy S22 Ultra 5g on O2 refresh. I did order a new sim but wanted to keep my old number. I've managed to put my old sim in and the new one but am having to switch sim every time I make a call. Should I have put the old sim in the sim 1 slot and not the new one sent?. Maybe I dont need the old sim in. Just confused sorry. Thank you

If your old sim is 5G you can use that. If not you'll need to do a sim swap @Joella

You don't need both sims.

Thank you so much , my old sim is not 5g so I will follow the instructions to do a sim swop. Will this keep my old number ?
