Upgrade returned after I paid device off

Wondering if anyone can shed some light as I am slightly confused with Live Chat.
So I had £378 left on my device, when I upgraded I paid this off... Returned the phone as couldnt adjust from Samsung to Oppo and want to preorder the new samsung when its announced.
My question is, will my previous device still keep the money, or as part of the return do they refund that and charge the device charge as was before the upgrade?
Im hoping they keep the device paid off but Live chat kinda give a roundabout answer on it.

One last thing, anyone know how long it takes O2 to revert back to original tariff? Bill gets generated in 2 days... dont really wanna pay the higher tariff and device plan when dont have it.

You will only be able to revert back if that tariff is still available.
You really need to call O2.

Advice from an O2 Guru regarding a way to get through:
If you call 202, when it comes to the reason you are calling stay silent for 15 seconds and you will be taken to the keypad options.
Press 2 for Everything Else
Press 5 for More Options
Press 7 for Anything Else which will put you though to an advisor.
Press Upgrade, Lost/Stolen or Fraud if you have to.
