I have just got a new contract phone and the sim keeps saying no service why is this and how can I stop it. It is very frustrating

OK, so the shop should have activated the sim, but it can take up to 24 hours to complete.
Turn the phone on and off a few times too to see if it connects and also check the sim is inserted correctly.
If not working by tomorrow, contact customer service to check your account http://www.o2.co.uk/contactus

If it is an upgrade, just put your old sim in the new phone.
If it's the wrong sized sim, do a sim swap http://swapmysim.o2.co.uk/

Did you get signal with o2 before the move to contract ?

It should be working obviously if not then contact customer services from the link above.

Then maybe you need to contact customer service from a landline or check for faulty masts in your area
