Signal issues

Ok I'm at the end of my tether. I live in the centre of a major town, and my signal indoors if often very variable and has been for years - I am loyal to O2 and really did hope they would improve the service here over the years but it's not happening. I have two phones, PAYG and Pay Monthly. Both suffer the same problems despite carrying out the reset/remove and clean sim contacts etc which is advised by customer service.

This afternoon my signal has varied from nothing at all, to SOS, to GSM and occasionally gprs.

I rely on my phones for my business and general security.

When I look on the map there's only 1 or 2 masts to cover the entire town, in other areas there'll be several times this number.

I'm really quite sick of it.

If I visit my partners house, also in the centre of a town(but a smaller town) he also on O" gets ok signal, but I struggle to get any. I've changed handsets and like i say carried out the maintenance advised but no improvement.

What is going on?I'm really a bit fed up and considering looking using a landline package with BT where my phone will link with VOIP.

I've also travelled to some quite remote places in Europe and always got full 3G signal, even half way up mountains miles away from any towns. What is going on in this country?

Different handsets process signal differently so some are better than others. You say you have done the SIM clean etc but have you changed the SIM for a new one as it may be faulty.

Go to any O2 shop and they should exchange it there and then for a new one as that's something they always advise themselves.

You also say you have checked for masts in the area have you checked

status.o2.co.uk and entered your postcode in to see what kind of level of service you should be expecting. This will also tell you if there is a problem with any of the masts in your area.

Thanks, the SIMs were changed 18 months ago and the same problems continued. I'm reluctant to change SIMs again because each time it means a break in service, which also impacts me.

I have checked the status already and it shows no problem at all.

Other people in the same area have the same problems with signal too but for some reason nothing seems to be being done about it.

Over the next two years O2 are increasing their coverage of 2G, 3G and 4G to 98% of the population.

If you can't get a better signal from another provider you should in time get an improvement.

I'd suggest calling customer services using 'contact us' at the bottom of this page and letting them know. There may be an issue with a mast in the area that they don't know about yet.

I chatted to an online advisor who took ownership of my complaint, told me she'd email me within 24 hours and took my email address.

I've heard nothing and it's 24 hours laterCat Sad

One reason I've not complained in the past is because on the phone all I'd get is the same old script about restarting my handset/cleaning the sim, being told to get new sims/handsets.

She reassured me they were taking me seriously.

I have ordered a Vodafone sim, they advertise in their local shop as having the best coverage for the area, and a friend of mine says he has no problems with his. I'll try it out and will look into changing to them if the issue isn't sorted, I had held on for several years already hoping it would improve and it's getting to real crunch time.

I would take anything that O2 chat says with a very large grain of salt. As you are having trouble with indoor reception, have you tried the TuGo app on your Pay Monthly phone? It's far from perfect and is still being developed, but it might help you.

Problems are mostly inside and I'm going to be trying the Tugo, when it's compatible with my phones which it isn't.

Just been on live chat, all they did was tell me the signal in my area is ok. It's not, it was 2 bars then none a minute ago. Absolutely disgusted with my treatment.

They can't be too bad for you to have stayed so long and you haven't been singled out for "poor treatment", I doubt there is much they can do.

A wireless signal can be a fickle thing and coverage will always vary, some get a good indoor signal and some don't.

I have a weak signal but I realise the way things are I will have to wait for the mast to be improved, even then it may not be much better.

I have tried sims from all the networks and for me they're all the same.

It's wireless not magic unfortunately.

1. I'm pretty faithful

2. I'm very stubborn and patient at the same time

Yes it's caused me major hassles, but I kept hoping it would improve.
