Hi All,
I am a mobile phone newbie with a lumia 820 and new 02 customer. I travelled a fair amount and having read beforehand about the data/roaming cost and promptly tried to disable everything I needed. During a recent trip to India, I suddenly figured out that my phone WAS roaming. It must have taken 30-40mins to go through the menus double check selector positions etc. I finally traced it to a setting (to choose the network automatically) forcing the phone to connect to a local network. The ONLY way I found to get rid of the roaming icon was by selecting a "forbidden" networkt and switching the phone off fully thereafter.
In doing so I discovered that the "setting>cellular" option doesn't exist on my phone even thougn windows says it should. I came across a post about Verizon which indicated a similar issue.
My point: O2 and other networks MUST know this is causing issues/higher bills and anxiety among customers. Yet I find NO proper corporate explaination or details on the ins and outs of data roaming nor on the bits they silently seem to have removed from the phone! If you feel like me - i.e. a bit betrayed and abused- or if you got a nasty surprise in your bill, please add your post to this thread.
O2 BEWARE, I work in legal aspect of clinical-product safety and all I read around bills/undisclosed changes settings and little transparency around it all suggest to me that you are either negligent, manipulative or simply dismissive, and I suspect you do it purposely! I summon you hereby to add a factual and detail list of what you modify from the standard manufacturer' settings on the phones, and what the different scenarios where users would inccur roaming charges look like based on settings on their phone. If you really monitor your threads and are diligent you will understand that this is your chance to come clean!
Thank you all for your input.

Connecting to a roaming network shouldn't incur charges as long as roaming/mobile data is switched off. It's the data that obviously incurs charges, not the ability to make or receive calls and texts. To switch off mobile data try the following:

Quick question - did you either a) check the o2 website for roaming costs or call to find out and b) seek advice from o2 or the phone manufacturer about how to set it up to avoid roaming data costs?

Perhaps it's a virtual poll?

Seems like the OP is misleading us and withholding details of how to accomplish what should be a simple task. I demand a copy of the T&C's (which I won't read) and a copy of the "Polling" manual
