Phone broken but contract runs til August!!

Hi,

I am hoping someone can help with a problem I have.  My daughter has an iphone 3 on a 2 year contract that expires in August however the phone is now broken and O2 have quoted £120 to repair it - this is a lot of money for what is effectively an old phone.

I am hoping that there is a way to upgrade her phone and start a new contract early ie now!

Does anyone know if this is possible with O2 - I can't find anything on the website that indicates this is doable.

Steve.

o2 don't offer anything like that you will have to use the sim in a different phone until august or you could pay the contract up and start a fresh one

Only if you pay up the rest of the contract first. The phone should be repairable, what is wrong with it?
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

The only way to upgrade early with O2 is to pay up the minimum term of the contract. Only other option is to get another handset and use the sim in it. This would be at her own cost I'm afraid.

These guys are right, if the phone is broken and you're in the 2nd year of your contract your iPhone is out of warranty and therefore not covered for repairs.

If you dropped it/ broke it and you have insurance you could claim for it. Even if you have home insurance it may cover a damaged iPhone.

As for O2 letting you upgrade early then I'm afraid not. You'd have to pay off the last few months of your contract.

The situation could have been avoided if you'd taken out the extended warranty (apple care) which O2/Apple could have provided you with.

Just bear in mind if its not an Iphone or a smartphone you can remove the data bolt on which should save a few quid each month

The huewai on pay as you go on o2 website is only 25 quid at the minute. its a basement android phone but its got 3g, WiFi and facebook etc and all the main apps should still work fine It was the best value I could find. I've ordered one to pick up for my son for the exact same reason. Don't forget all other brands offer 2 yr warranty its only apple ( predictably) that rip you off with the extended warranty payment.
