Phone says 306MB -- O2 says 500MB. How can that be?

Hi, O2 says I've used up my 500MB allowance for my billing period (from 2nd to 2nd of each month) whereas my phone says I've used 306MB from the 2nd December. I'd understand a few % difference but this is over 60% more. How can this be? Has anyone experienced similar? Could they measure what they send and my phone measure what it receives? It wouldn't seem very fair to me then.

I seriously doubt the sim fault theory tbh but changing it won't hurt anyway.

Always good to get a replacement sim, but I've never heard of that happening.

i never rely on data useage showing via the phone. Even though the data resets on the phone at midnight, it doesn't always on o2.

for example, you could be using data at 11.55pm by browsing on the internet or YouTube for example, but that data used may not get updates until 12.01am, so even though you may have used 50mb at 11.55pm, it will come off the new bundle.  But you phone it self will show you that you used it at 11.55pm.

Its got much better as data useage is updated much quicker now, with in mins, but it still happens.

Let us know though how you get on

@darrengf They do offer you a new sim each time you upgrade as I've had it done with my recent upgrade even though I didn't need a new one

@Anonymous I've never said that they don't, but I've never heard of a SIM card being replace for that reason though.  But you never know

Thanks everyone for help and comments. The mystery continues: I now got my bill and it shows 341.16MB from the 1st to the 31st December. So I still have no idea why my data was capped on the 30th saying I had reached 500MB (my billing period is from the 2nd to the 2nd). I can now use data again in the new period so I'm happy but will try to send this in to O2 so that they can hunt bugs in their systems. 🙂

None of us here will be surprised that there's a bug in the system wink
