Hi everybody,
I'm travelling to Uganda in a few weeks time and I've a Pay and Go mobile. When checking the tariff for use it says that everything's unavailable. Does this mean I can't use my UK O2 Pay and Go phone in Uganda?
The O2 page I'm using is http://international.o2.co.uk/internationaltariffs/travelling_abroad and there's a picture of the results page attached here just in case I'm not being clear.

Hi Chiara,
I'm done, I've gone with Orange. Don't bother chasing anything for me.

Looks like the "relevant advisor" hasn't done anything with that information. Out of a vague interest I got my other half to ask live help about using Pay and Go in Uganda about an hour or so ago ... here's the session. How long will it take before the answer comes back "you can't use Pay and Go in Uganda"?
Kinda disappointing.

Yes, I've had confirmation that the issue is with African countries, it's being investigated.
Update: O2 doesn't support roaming for Pay & Go in some countries, including Uganda. If you see 'Unavailable' it means that roaming isn't supported.
We've passed the information to the relevant advisor too.
Chiara I would suggest that the wording needs changing to explicitly state no o2 payg roaming then it is clear

Hi again. Sorry, I've already said I'm done with this but it keeps coming up.
In the group of young people who're travelling to Uganda there are three who are using O2 Pay and Go Go Go ... and I've told them that their phones aren't going to work. However, they don't believe me because, other than the replies on this forum, everybody else is telling them that it'll work without any problem. A couple of them checked with an O2 store in town yesterday and the O2 person there said without hesitation that it'll work but will be expensive to use. When they pointed out that the website said "unavailable", the O2 person told them that the website's unreliable and probably wrong but he'd phone and check. After a few minutes on the phone (don't know who to) he came back and confirmed that there was no problem using Pay and Go in Uganda, the costs were as already stated in this thread, there was nothing needed to enable them for roaming prior to travel and that they should be sure to switch off data roaming to avoid hefty data charges.
Staff representing O2 are telling its customers that the website's unreliable!
Now, I've been told here by everybody who commented that it'll work, except for Chiara who's backed up by adamtemp64 who've said that it won't work. I've no idea who Chiara or adamtemp64 are - they appear to represent themselves as having an association with O2 but there's nothing that explicitly says that. Are they trolls?
In other news, my simple idea of picking up an Orange SIM, since their website is very clear on their Pay and Go roaming, failed miserably. I picked up the SIM, dropped it into a SIM-free phone, it appeared to register but something isn't right. The Orange website's been down, apparently, for months, wait times on the customer service line are always in excess of two hours, and despite several tries over several days can't top it up. Everything Everywhere is being openly referred to as Nothing Nowhere and the horror stories are terrifying. So I binned the 99p Orange SIM.
On to Vodafone now.

I am a customer and Chiara is an o2 employee that is responsiable for the community (I am not a troll) Thre reason I asked for clarification is so that the Truth is there for other customers like me I have not confirmed this just asked for clarification of the wording.

If you look at Chiara's post you'll notice Community Manager by her name, hardly likely to be a troll!

Hi UgandaBill, I ask just one thing...please update the thread after your trip then we will know for definite whether an O2 sim will work there.
